Pictures from our holiday by the sea

At last, some photos from our week-long break at the sea. Thanks to Rachel Cooper for uploading them for me from England: it's a major effort from here!

We drove down to Watamu (near Malindi!), and most of the road was great, some horribly pot-holed, but to avoid Mombasa we drove on unpaved road through the 'real Africa', to your left. It only took 12 hours door to door (2 long stops and a puncture).

And then we went swimming in the lovely pool. I didn't keep my hat on the whole time!

We also did some other stuff like trying scuba diving in the pool (cool), windsurfing (not Maik's gift, especially after being stung by a jelly fish...), and snorkelling in a coral reef (Carys and Benjie came along as well, though for Benjie just getting in the sea, wearing a life jacket, was an act of major bravery. I have to say, I need to do that again! We also went a couple of places...

To a mangrove swamp with a very long and wobbly rope bridge.

... and to visit to set of the Jungle Book... well actually the abandoned Arab/Swahili city of Gede, which has been becoming part of the forest for the last 250 years. Some of you might recognise Simeon and Emma.

Glad to see that you're settling in and getting out and about. Enjoyed your story about and victory over "corruption". Perhaps in some ways it shows that there is less actual public official corruption but still people playing on the spectre to make a buck (or many) on the side.
Good to see the hat... disappointed to hear that you did take it off eventually... or did it float off!
Love and prayers to all,

Joe KIDMAN
