The violence in Kenya continues
I've been wanting to add a new note for a while, but today's events make me do it now. Naivasha, where we spent a lovely weekend a week ago (about 50 miles from here), is now the scene of major violence. Our friends who live there have been hearing gunfire, and the BBC says at least 9 have been killed. It's now been a month since the election, but this is the first major violence that Naivasha has seen, following other violence in the town of Nakuru, a bit further away.
All of this just demonstrates the continuing problems of ethnic tension which are still plaguing Kenya: what trust there was has gone, and otherwise sensible people can be heard expressing what seem to us to be racial/tribal stereotypes. There's a long road ahead, and things may not get better for quite a while. Pray for leaders to make genuine steps towards reconciliation, rather than the posturing which seems to be the main trend.
We're OK, but you can't quite relax in this environment....
