camping in Naivasha
We're just back from a 3-day camping trip to Lake Naivasha: it was meant to be 2 days, but the car overheated as we set out yesterday, so we called the AA and they sent someone who really just wanted to tow the car back to his garage. Well, today is a public holiday, and many people part of the camping party were still around, so it wasn't a big deal to go back and camp another night, especially when it seemed like everyone put our tent back up for us in less than 10 minutes. The car overheated again today: head gasket gone, and the car is in a garage in Naivasha, while we got lifts back to Nairobi with various people.
Anyway, it was a great time, our first time camping in Kenya, made much easier by generous friends old and new, as we hadn't planned very well. Benjie is fascinated by fishing, Carys disappeared with friends, and Zebbie was happy riding his wobbly bike and asking for more food. BBQs, singing round the campfire, watching hippos grazing on the banks at night, 50 metres from our tents, taking the boys to Hell's Gate National Park with zebras, giraffes, gazelle, and hot springs and a gorge... a nice time chatting and getting to know people better. Very relaxed and very tired now!
